Holiday Tree Collection
LRS will pick-up holiday trees at no cost during a two week period ending January 14th. Remove all lights, ornaments and garland and place tree at the parkway behind the curb on your regular pick up day, prior to January 14th.
Annual Clean-Up Day
Every October, the Village's Waste Hauler provides clean-up day, where residents may dispose of an unlimited amount of refuse, including bulk items, for a total of five stickers. Acceptable items must be placed on the curb by 6 a.m. Items other than furniture, large bulk items and appliances must be placed in bags, cans and/or boxes, not larger than 35 gallons or heavier than 50 pounds each. Stickers may be purchased at Village Hall.
Disposing of Items Not Accepted With Regular Garbage Service
Electronics
Under the Illinois Electronic Products Recycling and Reuse Act, beginning January 1, 2012, no person may knowingly cause or allow the mixing electronic items with municipal waste that is intended for disposal at a landfill. Residents may dispose of electronic items curbside by using stickers. Residents may also take electronic items to an E-waste recycling center. For information on the center serving La Grange Park, visit the Burr Ridge website.
The Village's waste hauler, LRS, will pick up electronics as part of the weekly refuse collection as long as electronics are separate from regular refuse and follows the following guidelines:
1 Sticker
- 1 Small electronic item
5 Stickers
- Brown grocery bag of electronics
10 Stickers
- Monitor/television/computer
Where to Recycle E-Waste
Burr Ridge is a designated Electronics Recycling Collection center. This collection center is located at:
Public Works Building
451 Commerce Street
Burr Ridge, IL 60137
The center is staffed daily from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. There is a fee for all televisions and monitors, which can be paid in advance online or you may pay the fee onsite.
Paint
Oil-based paint cannot be disposed of with your regular garbage. Latex paint can be disposed of with regular trash because it is a non-toxic, water-based paint. You will need to add an absorbent material such as shredded newspapers, kitty litter, sawdust, or waste paint hardener to your latex paint and let it dry out completely in a well-ventilated area and away from children and pets. Once it is dry, put the container with your garbage with the lid off.
Prescription Medications
The La Grange Park Police Department, in cooperation with the United States Department of Justice, has a Prescription Drug Disposal Box. Unwanted pharmaceuticals (including liquids) may be safely disposed of by bringing them to the Police Department. Needles or sharps cannot be accepted and must be disposed of as required by law. There is no charge for disposing of unwanted pharmaceuticals. All pills must be removed from the bottle and placed in a sealed plastic bag. Pill bottles are not accepted and the Village does not provide sealed bags for disposal.
Needles & Sharps
To properly dispose of needles or sharps, follow the instructions:
- Use a securable container, like a coffee can, milk bottle, plastic soda bottle, laundry detergent bottle, etc.
- Place the sharps into the container carefully with the points down.
- Do not overfill the bottle. About half full is the best time to dispose of it.
- Glue the lid in place! You may also secure some lids with heavy tape, like duct tape.
- Wrap the container in several plastic bags and then tape the entire package securely.
- Clearly print “Do Not Recycle” on the outside of the package.
- Place in regular garbage for disposal.
